Finding something genuinely free from a major publisher usually comes with a catch buried somewhere in the fine print. This one is pretty clean.
D&D Beyond Maps: Free Official Virtual Tabletop
D&D Beyond Maps is Wizards of the Coast’s own virtual tabletop, built directly into D&D Beyond and free to use with any free account. You get fog of war, monster and player tokens, turn tracking, digital dice, and access to official maps from adventures you own – all browser-based, so nothing to install. It’s not trying to be Foundry, but if you want a no-fuss table to run a session and you’re already in the D&D Beyond ecosystem, it’s hard to beat the setup time.
For mini painters, the angle is obvious: you paint the minis, then you actually use them (or their digital stand-ins) at the table. Maps syncs automatically with your D&D Beyond character sheets and monster stat blocks, so the session-running side stays out of the way of the fun. One caveat worth knowing: homebrew maps and custom tokens require a paid Master Tier subscription. The free account plays official content.

One find this week, but a genuinely useful one. If you’ve got Maps set up and want something to paint for your next session, the D&D starter paint kits are a solid place to begin.
