The official Citadel paint app (iOS and Android, completely free) holds thousands of step-by-step painting recipes searchable by subject – type in “skin,” “leather,” “fire,” or “rusty metal” and get a full Citadel paint sequence with product names and technique notes. It’s been around a while, but it just got a refresh alongside this week’s Warhammer 40k 11th Edition launch, making it more relevant than ever.
For D&D painters, this is genuinely useful even if you never touch a Space Marine – the recipes cover universal techniques that translate directly to fantasy minis. Skin tones, gemstones, wood grain, magical effects – it’s all in there, organised by the people who wrote the book on contrast and shade paints.
